If you haven't watched the original "Rocky" lately, you need to do it again. You'll be pleasantly surprised by what a warm, heartfelt little movie it is. The dialogue - lest we forget, the screenplay was written by Sylvester Stallone- is brilliantly character-specific, and often hilarious.
Here's one of my favorite passages. Rocky is on his first date with Adrian, at an otherwise deserted ice rink. He's pulled a news clipping of one of his fights from his wallet, and is showing it to her:
"That's me fightin' Big Baby Crenshaw. Big Baby was the size of an airplane, an' I broke my hands on his head. I lost. But it's a nice picture, don't ya think?"
"Rocky" remains one of my all-time favorite movies. Stallone surrendered to pandering and big bucks later in his career, but he has every reason to be proud of this one. It is a nice picture, and I'll always treasure the memory of my father, who isn't around anymore, sharing it with me.
